A Short History:
Founded in Gary, Indiana in January of 2005, the Coalition is committed to ending the occupation of Iraq and to bringing
U.S. troops home. We believe we are in step with both regional and national public opinion that shows that a majority of
Americans disapprove of the war and want to see it ended. Therefore, our efforts have been concentrated on building local
anti-war support through mass leafleting at public events about the human and financial costs of the war and through the
distribution of hundreds of "Out of Iraq" yard signs, magnetic ribbons calling to "Bring the Troops Home", Out Of Iraq"
buttons, "Out of Iraq" T-shirts and static cling car window stickers. We have held vigils, rallies and forums. We have initiated and helped to guide into passage a resolution by the Gary City Council calling on the President to end the war. We have gained passage of a resolution to have no war on Iran. We have met with Congressman Peter Visclosky and presented him with petition signatures urging support various resolutions to set a timetable for withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. We have also presented petitions to staff employees of Senators Bayh and Lugar. We are also working with local school boards to make sure the "opt out" option stipulated in the No Child Left Behind law is made known to students facing military recruiters.
Every Saturday we have held rallies at the Highway of the Flags in Highland, Indiana at 12:00PM and in Valparaiso, Indiana.
In September of 2005, we greeted the "Bring the Troops Home" caravan and have supported candle light vigils in Whiting. We now have local groups functioning in Gary,Crown Point, Highland, Valparaiso and Chesterton.
