About Najlaa
Najlaa Al-Nashi is an Iraqi medical technologist and cancer researcher from Baghdad. Following the US-led invasion in 2003, she and her family were forced to flee Iraq to live as refugees in Jordan. There, Najlaa co-founded and served as Middle East Coordinator for Direct Aid Iraq, a joint Iraqi and American aid, advocacy, and peacebuilding effort founded on principles of solidarity and reparations. As part of this work, Najlaa served in consulting and networking roles with numerous aid and advocacy organizations, including Doctors Without Borders, International Rescue Committee, the Japanese organization Children Without Borders, Caritas, CARE, and Relief International. Amongst myriad projects, she has supported the production of six documentary films, and supported journalists, writers, artists, and activists in bringing the experience of Iraqi refugees to a global audience. She is in Indianapolis as part of a series of visits with Iraqis and Americans concerned about supporting a future of peace, prosperity, and self-determination for all of Iraq's people.
